STEPS EVALUATION PROGRAM
What is Evaluation?
Evaluation is more than client satisfaction surveys and staff feedback, it is an intentional process that is individual and unique to your organization's needs and goals, that can have several different focuses and methodologies. At the base level, evaluation is about taking a temperature check to see, currently how a project, process, or program is actually working. The big question is, are your actions actually creating your desired outcomes?
Why do we need to understand evaluation and integrate it into the work we are doing in the anti-human trafficking? The answer is not an easy one, it is imperative that we integrate these practices if we want to see the movement be one that has longevity and is truly making long term lasting change for individuals who have experienced exploitation.
What evaluation is asking of programs is what we ask of clients when we bring them into our programs, to commit to vulnerability, building community, and engaging with their stories in a therapeutic context. Evaluation is very much the same concept, we are asking programs to engage with every area of what makes them who they are as a living, breathing organism. Organizations are made up of individuals with their own personal histories, traumas and ways of relating. They are rooted in worldviews, belief systems and theoretical frameworks. If these things are left unattended and unexplored, vicarious trauma, harm and dysfunction can start to fester beneath the surface. This work is hard, it is exhausting at times, and it is so easy to get caught up in the utter need and crisis of the trauma of exploitation.
